The Woman Who Thought She Was A Planet and other stories by Vandana SinghA debut collection from one of my favorite short story writers. Singh's exploration of the fantastical and science-fictional in Delhi and other Indian locales opens up the vista for speculative settings and shines a wonderfully observational light on a culture with a vast history. Whether it's a housewife inhabited by insect creatures, a giant tetrahedron that appears without warning, or a sculptress who melts into mud during a monsoon, the premises and execution of these stories is pitch perfect, and can lead to hilarious, thoughtful, and horrifying results.
