Netherland by Joseph O'NeillA quiet post-9/11 post-7/7 story about Hans van den Broek, a Dutchman living in New York and London who must deal with (at separate points) the dissolution of his marriage and the death of his friend, the audacious Trinidadian cricket enthusiast Chuck Ramkissoon. The wounds of these two cities after being attacked by terrorists become an existential crisis in Hans' life, but recovery, it seems, is indeed possible. Told beautifully, and with an excellent ear for dialogue.
